Hydrogen and Alternative Fuel Technologies

The Hydrogen and Alternative Fuels Technologies research group leads the research and development of energy strategy solutions in the field of hydrogen and alternative fuels. By anticipating technological challenges in hydrogen-related industries, the research group proposes alternative approaches that lead to “zero-CO2” energy solutions. Our research group focuses on launching new project collaborations and activities with the aim of bringing innovative perspectives to key research areas.

In particular, balancing the structure of electricity consumption—which consists of peaks and troughs—is of great importance in terms of investments and emission-free energy production. In other words, storing excess energy generated during intermittent renewable energy production and using this energy during hours when load demand is primarily met by fossil fuels presents opportunities both in terms of environmental concerns and investments in power generation plants. Hydrogen, which is projected to be the technology of the future in this field, is one of the leading technologies for addressing this need due to its high energy density and portability. Under the umbrella of this research group, expert researchers are conducting research activities on topics such as hydrogen production, storage, transportation, certification, and blending with natural gas. Research into green hydrogen production, hydrogen-powered vehicles, fuel cells, storage, and auxiliary equipment for hydrogen technologies is also among this research group’s priorities.
