Recommendations and Guidelines for Writing a Thesis
Theses may be written using a LaTeX template, a typesetting program frequently used in academia that is well-suited for preparing scientific and mathematical documents in Word or high-quality print formats.
In both templates, only one of the IEEE or APA citation systems should be chosen for in-text citations and for the thesis’s references section, and this choice must be consistently followed throughout the thesis.
Our Institute recommends using LaTeX for ease of formatting and writing. Additionally, necessary guidelines for those using Word are provided in the “Thesis Writing Guide” document.

Guidelines on Ethics and Generative Artificial Intelligence
Click here for the “Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Guidelines on Ethics in Scientific Research and Publication,” which sets forth the mandatory ethical principles and rules governing scientific research and publication processes conducted at higher education institutions and adopted by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
In addition, given the rapid proliferation of AI technologies in academic work, YÖK has prepared the “Ethical Guide on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research and Publication Activities at Higher Education Institutions,” which explains under what conditions and how generative AI tools may be used in theses, articles, and other scientific works, disclosure requirements, and ethical boundaries.
Thesis Title Guidelines
1. The proposed thesis title should be short, concise, and clear, not exceeding 150 characters (including spaces).
2. Avoid using symbols such as parentheses ( ( ) ), underscores ( _ ), quotation marks ( ‘ ’ ), and semicolons ( ; ) in the thesis title.
3. If the name of a province, district, or village is to be included in the thesis title, it must be specified in the format “... province, ... district, ... village.”
4. In theses written in Turkish, English words should be avoided as much as possible.
5. Abbreviations should not be used in the thesis title, except for those that are commonly used and have become part of everyday language.
Thesis Submission
Theses must be prepared with spiral or cardboard binding for the initial submission and with color-coded cloth binding as specified below for the final submission. When printing the thesis, the text up to the table of contents should be printed single-sided, and the remaining sections, including the table of contents, should be printed double-sided.
Additionally, in accordance with the letter dated June 3, 2020, No. 36054236-806.01.03-E, issued by the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education,32794 dated June 3, 2020, the signatures on the page containing the thesis committee members’ full names and signatures must not be included on the CD submitted with the bound thesis.
The physical copy of the thesis submitted as part of the bound thesis must include the thesis committee’s original wet signatures. The signature pages must be identical to those in our thesis templates. Signature pages that do not conform to the format in the template will not be accepted, even if signed by the committee, and the student must revise the relevant page to conform to the template and obtain signatures from the committee again. Responsibility for this lies with the student.
